Pacers Erupt in First Half to Sink Highlanders

Scranton, PA - Marywood University jolted out to a 38-11 halftime lead before taking down Cairn University 65-49 Monday in Colonial States Athletic Conference women's basketball action. Marywood stays in the playoff hunt and remains fifth in the conference with six eligible playoff spots. 

For a 14-minute stretch to end the first half, the Pacers went on a 32-5 run. The Highlanders failed to score for a 10:51 lapse, watching Marywood extend 25 consecutive points. 

Alexa Gerchman led the Pacers with 11 points. Brittany Mang reached double figures for the third straight game with 10. Role players Kimmy Green and Danielle Terranella had eight apiece. 

Carly Leitzel was all over the court with seven rebounds, six assists and six steals. Mang registered five swipes, and Maddie Lavery blocked two shots. 

Kayley Sullivan tied her season high with six points on 3-of-3 shooting. Sullivan added a steal and two rebounds. 

Cairn's Amie Eppolito was on fire from beyond the arc. Eppolito hit nine of 17 threes for a game-high 27 points.. EJ Hartzler had 12 points, and Emily Tambussi brought down 10 off the glass. 

Marywood totaled 21 steals to the Highlanders' three. The Pacers held a 46-38 advantage in rebounds. 

The Pacers again struggled from long distance, hitting just two of 17 (11.8 percent) from 3-point range. Marywood also only made seven of 12 (58.3 percent) free-throw attempts.

Cairn roared back in the second half, outscoring the Pacers 38-27. 

Marywood returns to the court Saturday away at Cedar Crest College. The Pacers finish off their regular season away at Keystone College Monday before hosting Centenary College on Feb. 19.
