Scranton, PA - Fifth-seeded Gwynedd Mercy University eliminated No. 4 Marywood University from the Colonial States Athletic Conference women's basketball playoffs by a 83-73 score Monday at the Insalaco Arena. After a back and forth battle in the first half, the Griffins never allowed the Pacers to lead in the second stanza.

The first half featured nine lead changes and five ties. Neither team led by more than two possessions, and the Pacers never trailed by more than two points. Morgann Haduck gave the Pacers their largest lead of the day on a falling-down 3-pointer from a Nora Joyce pass to go ahead 21-15 with 10:12 remaining. Following the fifth tie, Brittany Moore hit two free throws with 31 seconds left to give the Griffins a 39-37 edge at halftime.

Carly Leitzel's game-tying jumper to start the half would be the last time the Pacers would have such opportunity. An old-fashioned three-point play by Nicole Dougherty started an 11-3 run that capped with a Nicole Dombrowski jumper to put the Griffins on top 50-42 at the 15:06 mark. Minutes later, an 8-3 run escalated the lead to 60-47 at 10:53.

A technical foul called on Dougherty gave Ashley Murray a chance to successfully shoot four straight free throws. On the next two possessions, Murray made a layup and a long-range jumper to chop the Griffin lead to 60-55. Murray netted eight points in a matter of 38 seconds.

Maddie Lavery hit the second of two baseline jumpers from Alexa Gerchman passes to bring the Pacers within four points (67-63) with just less than five minutes remaining. Lauren Smith and Jordan Dominic hit a pair of 3-pointers to quickly push the Griffin lead to double digits on the next two possessions.

Danielle Terranella posted her fifth double-double of the season -- and first since Dec. 17, 2013 -- with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Brittany Mang was a rebound shy of a double-double with 10 points, nine steals and three steals. Ashley Murray yielded a 13-point effort, and Gerchman added 11 points.

Gwynedd Mercy advances to play top-seeded Cabrini.

Mang moves into sole possesion of second place with 108 career games played at Marywood. She trails fellow senior Leitzel by two games.

Dominic made six 3-pointers for the Griffins. Gwynedd Mercy frequented downtown 32 times, hitting 13 threes for a 40.6 percent mark. In contrast, Marywood made just three of its 15 (20 percent).

Marywood held an advantage with a 42.1 field goal percentage to Gwynedd Mercy's 40.3 percent. The Pacers went 22-of-34 from the free-throw line.

The two teams combined for 46 turnovers. Marywood had 25 giveaways, and both teams tied with 11 steals.

Terranella notched three blocks.

Marywood will await word on Monday's ECAC selections. The Pacers stand with a 16-10 overall record.
