Pacers Outlast Ravens in Largest Scoring Affair

Rosemont, PA – Forty-one goals were tallied in the highest combined scoring game in Marywood University men's lacrosse history. The Pacers downed Rosemont College 26-15 in a rainy Colonial States Athletic Conference opener. The 41 goals eclipses the previous mark of 34 goals, set in a 29-5 win over Rosemont on April 29, 2012.

Dylan Swope totaled nine points on five goals and four assists for the Pacers. Brandon Terlizzi also scored five goals in addition to an assist.

Sam Trill, Riley Dobel and Scott Slater all scored a hat trick. Trill had a six-point effort with three assists.

In addition to a season-high 26 goals, Marywood posted its highest groundball total of the year. Marywood edged the Ravens 51-48 in ground balls. Michael Squillante had a career-best 16 ground balls. Nowell scooped up seven ground balls. Swope vacuumed six grounders.

Joe Magargal made three saves in 29 minutes, 9 seconds for the win. Alexander Fallek, Daghan Hart and Brian White saw time in net.

Squillante won went 21 for 35 on faceoff chances. As a team, Marywood won 23 of 43 opportunities from the circle.

Rosemont went on the scoreboard first with a Justin Regan score from Dan O'Connell 59 seconds into the game.

Trill evened it 50 seconds later on a Derek Schmidt feed. The Pacers scored three goals in a minute span to go up 4-1. Terlizzi scored on a man-up situation that would be the game-winning goal at 10:59. Just 17 seconds went by before Swope put one past the Ravens goalkeeper on a Deiner assist. Deiner and Swope changed hands on at the 10 minute mark to boost the Marywood lead to three goals.

Rosemont chipped out at the lead with a pair of Will Lawlor-assisted goals from Regan and Mike Manning.

Ahead 4-3, Marywood countered with three straight goals to end the first period with a 7-3 lead. The Pacers had their first two man-down goals of the year within a seven-second lapse. Swope struck on a Nowell pass to boost the lead to 6-3 with 1:22 left in the quarter. Squillante won the faceoff and dished a scoring chance to Trill.

After Rosemont added one to start the second, Marywood added another four in a row to provide a comfortable seven-goal first half lead.  The Ravens were held scoreless over 11:14 while the Pacers saw their lead jump to 11-4 with three minutes remaining.

Marywood's largest lead stood at 14 goals following an eight-goal push that capped off on a Dobel goal with 9:24 left in the game.

Both teams combined for 19 penalties. Marywood drew 10 flags for 10 minutes. The Pacers went 16 for 21 on clear attempts, and they were 6-for-9 on extra-man opportunities.

Marywood hosts Neumann University Wednesday at 4:00 pm.
