Knights Snap Pacers' CSAC Streak with 5-4 Win

Scranton, PA - It took over five years, but Marywood University finally dropped a Colonial States Athletic Conference regular season men's tennis match Sunday afternoon.  Visiting Neumann University improved to 9-2 overall and 7-0 in CSAC play with a 5-4 win over the host Pacers.  Marywod's last CSAC regular season loss came on April 5, 2009 (6-3 to Cabrini), a streak that lasted 32 matches.  Marywood fell to 4-2 (3-1 CSAC) with the loss.

Marywood trailed 2-1 after tight opening doubles play.  The Pacers and Knights traded 8-4 wins at #1 and #2 doubles, with Marywood getting their victory at #1 doubles from Ryan Mulqueen and Mark Van Nort, while Neumann's Bryan Bodine and Joel Maynard won at #2 doubles.  In a close #3 doubles match, Neumann's Todd Del Sordo and Stephen Moran beat Gavin Coyne and Steven Garubba 9-8 (7-0).

Mulqueen beat Bodine 7-5, 6-1 at #1 singles while Dustin Broom downed Marywood's Anthony Aveline 7-6 (7-4), 6-1 at #2 singles.  Daniel Tintle got a point for the Pacers with a 3-6, 6-2, 7-5 win at #3 singles but Maynard beat Garubba 6-2, 6-4 to keep the Knights one point ahead.  Kevin Godici won 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (7-4) for Marywood to level the match before Neumann's Del Sordo got the decisive win over Brown in three sets, 7-6 (7-4), 6-7 (4-7) and 6-3. 

On Monday, Marywood will play a doubleheader, of sorts.  The Pacers will host Immaculata University at 3:00 pm then will travel to Clarks Summit to take on Baptist Bible College at 8:30 pm at the Birchwood Tennis Club.
