Pacers Mount Comeback to Secure No. 2 Seed in CSAC Playoffs

Scranton, PA – Marywood University came from behind by two goals in the fourth quarter to defeat Gwynedd Mercy University 11-10 Thursday in its regular season finale. The Pacers (10-8, 5-1 CSAC) clinched the No. 2 seed in the Colonial States Athletic Conference playoffs and will face the Griffins (8-5, 4-2 CSAC) again on Tuesday in the CSAC semifinal.

Riley Dobel scored the game-winning goal with 78 seconds off an assist from Sam Trill to give the Pacers its only goal of the game. Joe Magargal made a nifty save to his lower right side to seal the victory in the closing seconds.

Trailing 10-8 after a Mason Risner goal, Dobel needed just 13 seconds to cut the lead down to one. Ryan Nowell picked up a ground ball off a Michael Squillante faceoff and dished it to a striking Dobel on the left side.

Derek Schmidt evened things at 10 with 5:32 remaining on an unassisted shot.

The Pacers killed two penalty attempts in the final 10 minutes.

Dobel scored five goals in total, including four of the Pacers' final five tallies. Sam Trill added two goals and an assist for a three-point effort.
Scott Slater netted two goals. Schmidt had a two-point outing with a goal and an assist.

Dylan Swope contributed with three assists. Swope joined the 100 Point Club on the Pacers' first goal of the game with an assist to Scott Slater at 4:52 in the first quarter.

Michael Squillante continued his faceoff success with a 14-for-25 performance at the X. He is 16 faceoff chances from holding the school record for most faceoffs in a season. Squillante finished with 11 ground balls.

Jarrod Bulger returned to the lineup with five ground balls. Ryan Nowell also managed five ground balls, in addition to four caused turnovers.

John Werner caused five turnovers for the Pacers.

Magargal made eight saves, including two key drive-killing stops late in the fourth quarter. Magargal now stands at 9-6. 

Trailing 8-5 at halftime, Marywood kept Gwynedd Mercy to just two goals in the second half.
