Gwynedd Valley, PA - Gwynedd Mercy University twice rallied from one run deficits against Marywood University to come back and beat the Pacers 3-2 in an eight inning nightcap Sunday. The host Griffins took the opening game 4-1.  Marywood is now 12-12 on the year and 4-8 in CSAC action while GMU improved to 17-12-1 overall and 11-3 in league play.

Marywood took a 1-0 lead in game two when Erik Pulkkinen started off the sixth inning with a single to center and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt from Daniel Hull.  Pulkkinen would then advance to third on a bunt single from Mike Diskin, and both runners would advance a bag on a wild pitch.

The Pacers' lead lasted through the sixth, but the Griffins tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the seventh on an RBI single to right from David Blount.  Marywood would again go up a run in the top of the eighth as Thomas Richards doubled down the left field line to score Mike Diskin. 

Unfortunately for Marywood, the Pacers could not maintain their one run lead again, as Gwynedd responded with two runs in the bottom of the eighth, including a walk-off single from Tom Bordi, to pick up the win. 

Marywood starter Billy Kelly got a no decision as he pitched the first six innings, allowing one run and just two hits.  Joseph DiLoreto pitched the seventh, and Bryan Noonan took the loss after allowing the two runs in the eighth.  Pulkkinen finished the nightcap 2-for-3 at the plate.

In the opener, Gwynedd got an unearned run in the second to take a 1-0 lead then added two more in the third on a two-run single from Frank Saviski.  The Griffins tacked on one more in the fourth before Marywood broke up the clean sheet with a RBI double from Jason Portuhondo in the seventh. 

Marywood will host the Griffins in the final game of the series tomorrow at 4:00 pm.
