Grossjung Scores Five in Pacers' Rout over Cyclones

Scranton, PA - Marywood University junior Dana Grossjung more than doubled her career high with five goals in an 18-7 victory over Centenary College Thursday in a Colonial States Athletic Conference women's lacrosse meeting. With three goals under her belt this season and a previous game-high of two goals, Grossjung found the net five times in a 16:47 span – all in the first half – to energize the Pacers to their third CSAC victory. She went 3-for-4 on free-position shots.

The Pacers (4-7 overall, 3-1 CSAC) scored 11 of the game's first 12 goals and led 14-2 at halftime.

The rest of the Pacers acted in concert in scoring. Kimberly Commisso totaled two goals and two assists for four points. Kathy DiGiacomo scored two goals and an assist. Natalie Burke and Michelle Thompson each manufactured two goals.

Defensively, Commisso corralled 10 draw controls and five ground balls. Burke caused a career-high four turnovers. Ashley Cavellier caused three turnovers. Jennifer Newins stepped up with four ground balls.

Samantha Akshar and Mary Ninivaggi both produced their first career goal. Cavellier scored for the first time since the 2011 season. Amanda Khozouri netted her first of the season.

Nine of the 10 starters in the field walked away with a goal.

Lauren Smith and Leigha Dolcemascolo split time in net. Smith picked up her fourth win of the season with three saves, and Dolcemascolo stopped five shots in relief.

Andrea Wisniewski had seven saves for the Cyclones (0-8, 0-3 CSAC). Carlie Schmitt and Abby Voelkner each scored three for Centenary. Kristen Rabenstein matched Commisso with five ground balls.

The Pacers host Cabrini College Saturday in a decisive game in the CSAC standings. Marywood will celebrate its Senior Day game on the tail end of a doubleheader with the first draw scheduled for 4:00 pm.
