Scranton, PA – Marywood University stood toe to toe with No. 3 Cabrini College for 15 minutes. The Cavaliers' effervescent offense exploded to the tune of eight goals in the second en route to a 18-8 over the Pacers Saturday in Colonial States Athletic Conference men's lacrosse.

Cabrini remains undefeated in 10 regular season and two conference affairs. Marywood drops to 5-7 overall and 2-1 in CSAC play.

Scott Slater led the Pacers with three goals and an assist for four points. Dylan Swope matched him with four points on two goals and two assists. Swope's two helpers place him one short of the Nick Parks' record of 60 assists.

Derek Schmidt added two assists.

Defensively, Ryan Nowell contributed a team-high five ground balls. Stephen Deiner racked up four ground balls.

Michael Squillante went 12 for 29 at the faceoff circle with two ground balls.

Things looked grim for the Pacers during the first 3:15 of the game. Cabrini scored three goals in systemic fashion to take a 3-0 lead early on. Corey Elmer provided his 28th goal 27 seconds into the contest. He then provided an assist to Evan Allvord at 13:03. Anthony DiSanzo added an unassisted goal to put the Pacers in an uncomfortable setting in the early going.

Slater put a halt to the Cavalier run at 10:48 from Schmidt. Two Cabrini goals by Tyler Johnston and Elmer extended its lead to 6-2 with seven minutes left in the first stanza.

Slater and Schmidt connected with each other again at 6:15. After Elmer scored his third goal just 12:30 into the game, Marywood responded with a Squillante goal off Scott Slater's ground ball pickup and subsequent assist.

Arguably the Net Gem of the Year emerged in the final seconds of the first quarter. Joe Magargal made a brilliant save to thwart a Cavalier attack. With just six seconds left, Magargal heaved a ball down the entirety of the field to Swope – just behind the goal line. Swope redirected the pass to a charging Slater. Slater beat out three Cavalier defenders and dove headfirst on his shot that sailed past the goalkeeper to cut the Pacers' deficit to two goals.

Cabrini found inspiration in the huddle and went on to score 11 of the next 12 goals in the game.

Magargal made 14 saves in a losing effort.

Marywood will Susquehanna University Wednesday in a rematch of last year's 10-9 Crusaders win that ended with an illegal stick violation wiping out a would-be game-tying goal with 2.3 seconds left. The Pacers next face Immaculata University in CSAC competition.
