Scranton, PA - Visiting Neumann University scored seven runs in the top of the second and the Knights went on to defeat host Marywood University 12-4 in Friday's Colonial States Athletic Conference baseball game.  Neumann got nine strong innings of work from starter Kristian DeLuzio en route to the win, improving to 15-19 overall and 8-8 in league play.  Marywood dropped to 12-14, 4-10 CSAC. 

The Knights started their scoring in the second with an unearned run before Eric Bergman picked up two RBI on a single to center to make it 3-0.  Ryan Clark later doubled to left center to pick up an RBI to put the Knights up 4-0 and leater in the inning Buddy Elgin hit a three-run homer to deep center. 

Marywood got one back in the bottom half of the frame on an RBI groundout from Jason Portuhondo and two more in the third on RBIs from Vince Rebar and Mike Diskin.

Neumann then sent up 9-3 on a single-run innings in the fourth and fifth, and despite giving one back to Marywood in the bottom of the fifth tacked on three more over the final three innings to take the 12-4 win.

DeLuzio struck out 12 and allowed eight hits in his complete-game effort. Daniel Hull (1-4) took the loss for Marywood.  Hull went six innings, allowing three earned runs on 11 hits and striking out five.  Erik Pulkkinen pitched the final three inningts, allowing two earned runs on three hits. 

Mark Sherlock went 3-for-4 for Marywood with a double and two runs scored. 

The two teams will complete the three-game series with a doubleheader tomorrow in Aston.
