Allentown, PA - Marywood University held a strong Muhlenberg side scoreless through the opening 45 minutes of play but the host Mules needed just under four minutes in the second half to break open the game and Muhlenberg went on to earn a 2-0 win over the Pacers Saturday afternoon in Allentown.  Muhlenberg improves to 2-0 on the year while Marywood fell to 0-2.

A scoreless first half was back and forth as Muhlenberg held a slight 9-7 advantage in shots in the opening half.  Both teams had decent looks at goal, but Marywood netminder Victoria Pezdirtz and Mules' keeper Jen Mermelstein both kept clean sheets though the first half of play.

Early in the second half, Muhlenberg broke the scoreless deadlock as Taylor Pini made a run through the left side of the box and placed the ball in the upper left corner to beat Pezdirtz and give the hosts a 1-0 lead.  The score would remain that way until the 69th minute when Kaitlin Cassidy stole the ball from a Marywood defender in the box and created a short break away to double the Mules' lead.

Muhlenberg out-shot Marywood 23-15 for the game and held a 11-4 advantage in shots on goal. Pezdirtz recorded eight saves while the team was credited with one save when Danielle Rill cleared a dangerous ball off the goal line with her head after a Muhlenberg corner kick.  Mermelstein made four stops to record her second consecutive clean sheet to start the season.

Marywood will be off until next Saturday when they host the 4th annual Joe Bochicchio Memorial Classic.  Named in honor of the late and legendary University of Scranton coach, Marywood and the University of Scranton co-host the tournament each year.  This year's teams include Marywood, Scranton, Lebanon Valley and Richard Stockton.  Marywood will host LVC Saturday at 1:00 pm in opening round action.
