Scranton, PA - Marywood University freshman Tori Jo Kakusian scored the game-winning goal with 2:04 remaining in overtime to lift the Pacers to a 4-3 victory over DeSales University in non-conference field hockey action Saturday afternoon in Scranton.  Kakusian's goal was her third of the game for a hat trick.

Off a penalty corner opportunity, Leanne McManus dished the ball to Kakusian at the top of the key. Kakusian took two steps to the right, faked the goalkeeper by looking left, and fired a strike to the right side of the cage. DeSales' Alessandra Farnesi made a diving stop at the line; the ball trickled off the edge of her stick and into the goal.

McManus registered an assist on all four Marywood goals. Gabriella Bower added a goal.

Three of the four Pacer goals came by way of a penalty corner opportunity.

The Pacers (2-3) wasted no time getting on the board, scoring 2:40 into the contest. McManus directed a ball to the top of the key. Kakusian rifled a shot that caromed off a defender's stick into the top of the cage.

Just after 15 minutes into the game, Kakusian went left on a McManus penalty corner to give Marywood a 2-0 lead.

DeSales (3-2) added two goals to even the contest before the first half expired. Alexa Beaumont came from the weak side to push a rebound of a Kayle Huey save into net just before the 20 minute mark. Nicola McDermott fooled the keeper with a deke that was followed with a backhanded shot from five yards out to tie the game 2-2 with 4:44 left in the half.

Bower gave the Pacers the lead once again at the 40:51 mark. Julie Kowalski blasted a shot that was deflected by McManus before it could get to the keeper. The ball sailed high over the keeper's head, and Bower came from the right side to tomahawk it down in for a 3-2 lead.

With just over six minutes in regulation, McDermott scored her second and sent the game into overtime on a fluke goal. McDermott came from the right base side and hit a cross shot that was initially saved by the keeper. The ball went in and out of the cage before the officials blew their whistles for a Bulldog goal.

Huey made five saves to earn her second career victory.

Marywood took advantage of penalty corners, holding an 11-6 advantage. Marywood outshot DeSales 15-14. Both teams had eight on target.

Marywood travels to Susquehanna University Wednesday at 7:00 pm. The Pacers don't return home again until they take on Ramapo College on Sept. 23.
