Baltimore, MD - Marywood University opened its Colonial States Athletic Conference field hockey campaign with a 6-1 victory over Notre Dame University of Maryland. The Pacers improve to 3-4 on the season, while the Gators fall to 2-3 overall.

Julie Kowalski and Amelia Waibel each provided two goal performances for the Pacers. Kowalski added an assist for a season-best five points.

Kowalski started things off with the first two goals of the game within a five-minute span. She scored from a Leanne McManus pass 25 minutes into the game. Four and a half minutes later, Kowalski burst down the field on a breakaway chance for an unassisted goal to give the Pacers a two-goal lead.

Leanne McManus added the Pacers' third goal a mere 33 seconds later from a Molly Westbook assist. Gabriella Bower started the scoring in the second half with a goal from Kowalski at 45:38 to increase Marywood's lead to 4-0.

Waibel added back-to-back goals in a 2:18 span in the second half. She tallied an unassisted goal, and later relayed a Tori Jo Kakusian pass into the cage for the final Marywood goal of the afternoon.

The Gators' Kelsie Jones squashed the shutout with an unassisted goal in the final five minutes. It was the first Gator goal scored against the Pacers since 2011.

Kayle Huey picked up her first CSAC victory with five saves. Bower and Kakusian each accounted for a defensive save.

Despite the 6-1 score, Marywood enjoyed just a 22-10 edge in shots and a 16-8 advantage in shots on target. Marywood had 10 penaltyy corners to the Gators' three.

The Pacers seek to even their overall record Tuesday when they host Ramapo College at 4:00 pm.
