Volleyball Splits Pair at Catholic Invitational

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Washington, D.C. – The Marywood University women's volleyball team split its final two matches Sunday at The Catholic University of America Invitational in Washington, D.C. After falling in three sets to the host Cardinals, the Pacers came from behind to win the final two sets in a 3-2 victory over New Jersey City University.
 
The Pacers fell to the Cardinals by scores of 25-11, 25-13, 25-19. Marywood followed that with a win over the Gothic Knights by 25-10, 23-25, 26-28, 25-17, 15-11.
 
Amy Kester was the Pacers selection to the All-Tournament team.
 
Ashley Zalewski registered 20 kills against New Jersey City, including seven in the first set alone. Zalewski also blocked a career-high seven times. She more than tripled her career high with seven blocks.
 
Mikayla Bristol collected eight kills, and Kathleen Reilly had seven kills.
 
Kelly Chadwick had a season-high 28 assists. Shayna Finn led the team with 11 digs.
 
Marywood dominated the first game 25-11. The Gothic Knights roamed back to take two consecutive close sets 23-25 and 26-28. Marywood rebounded to handily take the fourth 25-17 before closing it out 15-11 in the final frame.
 
Against Catholic, Zalewski again led the way with eight kills. Chadwick provided 15 assists. Finn calculated a team-best six digs.
 
Marywood went down hard against the hosts, only putting up 11 and 13 points respectively in the first two sets. The Pacers played well in the third set, falling 25-19.
 
The Pacers take nearly two weeks off before their Colonial States Athletic Conference opener at Neumann University on Sept. 20.
