Marywood Rally Falls Short to Cavaliers

Scranton, PA – Marywood University came short in a 57-50 loss to Cabrini College Wednesday in Colonial States Athletic Conference women's basketball action. The Pacers' five-game winning streak comes to an end at the hands of the Cavaliers, which remain undefeated in the conference through six games.

Ashley Murray posted a season-high 14 points off the bench. Danielle Terranella provided 12 points and eight rebounds. Both Terranella and Alexa Gerchman led the Pacers with eight rebounds.

Marywood (8-5, 3-2 CSAC) had eight blocks, including three apiece from Gerchman and Maddie Lavery.

Both teams struggled from the field with Marywood leading at a 31 percent clip. The Pacers held Cabrini to 29.4 percent shooting. Both teams fared poorly offensively in the first half, combining for 42 points.

Cabrini's Amber Keys yielded a double-double with 16 points and 14 rebounds. Kristinia Startare and Dana Peterson both chipped in with 11 points. Tayler Holmes reached double figures with 10.

The Cavaliers led by as many as 16 points with 9:38 remaining in the game. Marywood proceeded to go on an 11-point run, cutting the deficit to 48-43 following a pair of Murray free throws with 2:17 left. A free throw and two Cabrini possessions later, Murray picked up an offensive rebound and Terranella was sent to the line. Terranella made the second of her two free throws to put Marywood within five with 83 seconds left.

Keys took over in the final minute. She converted an and-1 chance with 1:09 left, and Gerchman nailed a jumper at the top of the key to keep it a two-possession game (52-46) with less than a minute to go. Keys and Murray again traded layups. However, Megan Decker hit a free throw to put the game out of reach with 26 seconds left.
