Wilkes-Barre, PA - For the second consecutive year Marywood University went 2-0 at the Cross County Challenge as the Pacers finished off a strong weekend of play with a convincing 68-53 win over host King's College Saturday afternoon.  After going 0-4 in the first two years of the Challenge, Marywood has now rattled off four consecutive wins, two each over Wilkes and King's. Saturday's win moved Marywood to 7-3 on the year, their best start in the 22 year history of the program.

Shane Kellaher (12 points) and Alex Barr (team-high 16 points) were named to the All-Tournament team.  Kellaher averaged 15 points per game over the two wins.

There was only one tie in the game (2-2) and the Pacers never trailed in the contest.

Marywood led 11-3 after the opening 5:24 of the game and kept King's at bay for much of the opening half.  The Pacers were up by as many as 15 (24-9) after a James Curley three with 7:48 to go and went into the break with a 34-27 lead.

In the first half alone, Marywood's bench outscored the Monarchs' 19-0.

King's got to within after 1:30 of the second half and to within one (37-36) after 4:18 of the second, but Marywood would prevent King's from tying or taking the lead.

With Marywood up 49-48 with 8:16 to go, back-to-back threes from Barr, a jumper from Kellaher and pair of free throws from Jeremy Ringland set Marywood off on a 12-0 run to break the game open.  Marywood's largest lead of the game, 18 points, came with 1:27 to go on a Kellaher lay in.

Curley added 11 for the Pacers.  King's (6-5) was led by Dan Rutecki's game-high 19 points and Tom Heston's 13.  Marywood hit 52% of their shots from the floor while limiting King's to 38.2% shooting.

Marywood returns to CSAC action Wednesday, January 7 as the host Rosemont College at 8:00 pm in the Insalaco Arena.
