Letthand Lifts Pacers to Win Over Cairn

Scranton, PA - A total team defensive effort and a game-high 22 points from Shane Letthand propelled Marywood University to a 65-52 win over visiting Cairn University Saturday afternoon in Colonial States Athletic Conference men's basketball action.  With the win, the Pacers improved to 12-7 overall and more importantly improved to 7-5 in league play to remain in the thick of things for one of six conference playoff spots.  Cairn fell to 1-17, 1-11 CSAC with the loss.

Marywood started slowly, allowing the Highlanders to build a 14-0 lead.  Then, down 19-8 after 10 minutes of play, Marywood picked up their defensive intensity and started making baskets, going on a 12-0 run over a four minute span to grab their first lead of the game, 20-19.  The two teams would trade leads until they went into the locker room knotted at 29-29.  

The Pacers continued their defensive pressure in the second half, allowing the visitors to score just 10 points over the opening 10 minutes as the Pacers built a double-digit lead.  Letthand was instrumental in the Pacers' surge offensively, scoring 17 second half points which included a 3 of 4 effort from long range.  

In all, Letthand hit 8 of 12 buckets and 4 of 5 from three point range for his season, and game-high 22.  Cameron Dean added 10 for the Pacers.  Shane Kellaher had a streak of 10 games with double-digit point production snapped as he added nine and grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.  

Reuben Lacy led the Highlanders with 15 points and seven boards.  Marywood limited Cairn to 38.8% shooting for the game and a 0-for-5 mark from long range in the second half.  

Marywood returns to action Wednesday when they host Immaculata University at 7:00 pm.  The Mighty Macs defeated the Pacers 61-60 on November 24th.
