Mighty Macs Rally to Deflate Pacers, 71-63

Scranton, PA - Immaculata University closed the game on a 31-10 run over the final 12 minutes to down Marywood University 71-63 Saturday in Colonial States Athletic Conference women's basketball action. The Mighty Macs overturned a 14-point deficit en route to the victory. Marywood (11-6) falls to 6-3 during conference play. 

Nora Joyce led the Pacers with 16 points on 8 of 15 shooting. Danielle Terranella amassed a game-high nine rebounds and 14 points. Catie Nealon bagged four 3-pointers for 12 points. 

Immaculata had two players post 20-plus scoring efforts. Adriana Sciascia sparked the Mighty Macs with 22 points and seven steals. Brittany Merckle tallied 20 points and seven boards. Sara Smith reached double figures with 13, in addition to seven rebounds. 

Trailing 53-39 with 12:40 left in the second half, Immaculata's run to the finish was started by a 3-pointer from Sciascia. With a 10-point Marywood lead, the Mighty Macs embarked on a 16-point that culminated in the second of two back-to-back Allison Zimney threes to grab a 60-54 lead with 5:05 remaining.  

Marywood stood two possessions away down the stretch. Nealon hit a 3-pointer with 78 seconds remaining to cut the deficit to 65-61. After a pair of Sciascia free throws, Alexa Gerchman connected on a Kimmy Green pass into the paint to again make it a four-point game. Following a turnover, Marywood squandered its chance to make it a one possession game; Green's failed runner in the lane was a blow to the Pacers' final aspirations. 

Marywood shot just 34 percent from the floor in the second half, including 1 for 8 from beyond the arc .

Marywood held a 12-4 lead with 14 minutes left in the first half. Immaculata used a 11-4 run to pull within one point (16-15) at 9:50. The Pacers outscored the Mighty Macs over the final nine minutes to take a 38-33 advantage into intermission.

The Pacers look to compose themselves with back-to-back games Monday and Tuesday at Baptist Bible and Cedar Crest. Marywood returns home Feb. 7 to take on rival Keystone College.
