Pacers Extend Winning Streak by Thwarting Cyclones

Scranton, PA – Marywood University women's basketball remained undefeated in the new year with a 68-53 victory over Centenary College Wednesday in Colonial States Athletic Conference play. The Pacers extend their record to 7-4 overall, 2-1 in the CSAC; while Centenary falls to 2-10 overall and 1-2 in the conference.

Danielle Terranella overcame early foul troubles to lead the Pacers with a game-high 15 points. Maggie Presnal recorded her third double-double in four games with 10 points and 13 rebounds. With three 3-pointers, Tara Steakin reached double figures with 12 points and posted a season-high eight boards.

Marywood shot 40.4 percent from the field and held Centenary to 35.2 percent. The Pacers were sent to the line 25 times for a 64 percent clip. For the third straight game, the Pacers dominated the glass to outrebound the Cyclones 49-26.

Marywood extends its winning streak to four games.

Centenary saw three players reach double figures. Rachel Edwards totaled 14 points. Mallory George scored 12 points, and Ally Fugnitti provided 10.

The Pacers opened the game by scoring the first seven points in less than a two-minute span. Two minutes later, Rachel Edwards hit a 3-pointer to put the Cyclones within three. Marywood gave themselves some room with an eight-point run that saw four points for both Presnal and Lindsey Schroth. Catie Nealon hit Presnal with a precise pass that enabled the Pacers to go on top 23-11. Another Edwards three at 4:44 pitted the Cyclones within single digits; however, Courtney Murray corralled an offensive rebound and put in a basket to extend the lead to 29-19.

Centenary came no closer than 12 points in the second half. Lisa Steakin provided the highlight of the game in the late stages. With just 98 second left, Steakin retained possession with just a second left on the shot clock. Facing two defenders close in proximity, Steakin heaved a one-handed hook shot in the air that vacuumed into the basket for a long-range 3-pointer.

Marywood seeks to extend its winning streak to five games Saturday when it travels to Rosemont College at 1:00 pm.
