Scranton, PA - Summer Liberto put home a feed from Margaret Wentzel following a penalty corner just 1:59 into overtime to lift Alvernia University past Marywood 3-2 in non-conference field hockey action Thursday afternoon in Scranton.

Wentzel ended up with a four point day on a goal and two assists, while Liberto scored the final two goals for the Crusaders (8-5).

Marywood (6-6) opened the scoring 1:27 into the game as Tori Jo Kakusian took a penalty corner pass from Gabbie Bower, beat one defender and rocketed the ball into the top right corner of the cage.

The visitors would tie the game at 1-1 when Wentzell got a pass from Hailey Knowlton and put one in from the top right corner of the arc.

With just over five minutes left in the half, Kakusian found Bower to put the Pacers up 2-1.

The score would remain 2-1 until the 53rd minute of play, when Wentzel connected with Liberto for the game-tying goal.

Then, in overtime, Wentzel collected a loose ball after a penalty corner and found Liberto for the game-winner.

The Crusaders held a 20-6 advantage in shots (9-5 on goal) but Marywood's Nicole Merrill made a game-high six stops to keep the Pacers alive throughout.  Her counterpart Rebecca Brosious made three saves in the win.

Marywood returns to action Saturday when they travel to Cedar Crest College for a 2:00 pm CSAC tilt.
