Gwynedd Valley, PA - Marywood University fought tooth and nail in a 1-0 setback to Gwynedd Mercy University Tuesday in Colonial States Athletic Conference women's soccer action. The Griffins clinch a CSAC playoff spot with their league-leading 24th point, and the Pacers (6-6-3, 5-2-2 CSAC) fall to fourth place with 17 points.

Gwynedd Mercy scored the lone goal of the game in the 36th minute off a corner kick opportunity. Danielle Rill made a team save off off an Anna Numerator shot and attempted to clear the ball out of the box at the goal line. The ball deflected off the Griffins' Sara Nedwick's chest, and she put the rebound into the net for her first score of the season.

One of Marywood's best opportunity came in the 69th minute. Off an Emily Kotcho corner kick, senior Brooke Cicale redirected the ball destined for goal but it caromed off the left post and out of danger.

Marywood got another good look with just over 16 minutes left but Megan Swiecicki's breakaway attempt was turned away by Griffin goalkeeper Jess Tadley.

The Pacers pressed the Griffins in the second half, outshooting the CSAC leaders 10-4 for the period. For the game, Marywood had seven shots on target to the Griffins' five. Gwynedd Mercy owned an 8-5 advantage in corner kicks, and both teams tallied 13 shots.

Julie Youngman performed admirably in goal with three saves. Her counterpart Tadley made six saves.

Marywood returns home Saturday to face Keystone College at noon for a pivotal CSAC matchup.
