Gwynedd Valley, PA - Marywood University fell to CSAC leader Gwynedd Mercy University by a score of 5-1 Wednesday evening in field hockey action. The win solidified the Griffins atop the CSAC standings after a perfect 7-0 regular season in league play (11-5 overall) while Marywood will be the #3 seed in the post-season tournament with a 9-7 overall mark (5-2 league).

Even a Cabrini loss at Neumann this evening would result in Cabrini holding a tie-breaker over Marywood (head-to-head) for the #2 seed.  The Pacers will take on Cabrini in one semifinal on Wednesday, November 4 in Radnor at a time to be determined.

Marywood jumped out to a 1-0 lead int he 33rd minute thanks to Cassie Stockwell's seventh goal of the season.  Her go-ahead goal came off a deflection after a long pass from Tori Jo Kakusian.  Kakusian picked up her third helper of the year on the goal.

But the host Griffins wasted little time responding, tying the game just 2:01 into the second half on the first of three Stephanie Bacho goals.  Bacho would add goals in the 43rd and 44th minutes to complete her hat-trick.

Brianna O'Connell then scored the final two goals for Gwynedd Mercy in the 50th and 69th minutes, the last of which came on a penalty stroke.

Marywood's Nicole Merrill made four saves while Kakusian picked up her 12th defensive save of the season.  Samantha Soscia recorded one save in the win.
