Cardinals Sweep Pacers in Landmark Swimming Opener

Washington, D.C. – The Marywood University men's and women's swimming and diving teams suffered a setback in their first Landmark Conference meet of the season Friday night at The Catholic University of America. The Cardinal men trounced the Pacers 174-102, and Catholic defeated the Marywood women 166.5-112.5.

The men's 200 yard medley relay of Daniel Adams, Chandler Krause, Bryon Scholl and Blake Burlingame won by a hundredths of a second over a Catholic relay squad that featured former Landmark Rookie of the Year Guido Saccaggi. The Pacers touched the wall in 1:41.21 to earn a thrilling victory.

Adams claimed a pair of victories in the 100 backstroke and 100 freestyle. He won the 100 backstroke in 56.37 seconds over Catholic's Nick Haas. In the 100 free, Adams clocked in at 48.85 seconds to down Catholic's Matt Wagner by 1.36 seconds.

Freshman Mia Nardone won three individual events and broke two school records in the 200 back and 100 fly. She narrowly defeated Madison Amann by 27-hundreths of a second with a 1:04.12. Nardone sliced another victory over Amann in the 200 back, winning the race by 4.08 seconds with a 2:17.34. She claimed the 100 butterfly in 1:02.11 to win the race by 3.04 seconds.

The women's 400 free relay of Virginia Cobb, Kim Petersen, Allison McCarthy and Nardone raced to first in 4:02.33. The men's 400 free relay of Paul Kraycer, Burlingame, Scholl and Adams took first with a 3:16.73.

Marywood travels to Drew University on Nov. 7 for its next Landmark Conference battle.
