Scranton, PA - Visiting Cairn University gave host Marywood University all they could handle in the first half but two second half goals from Julie Youngman lifted the Pacers to a 3-1 win over the Highlanders Wednesday afternoon in Colonial States Athletic Conference women's soccer action. The win moves Marywood to 5-5-1 overall and 4-1 in league play while Cairn fell to 5-6 (2-3 CSAC) with the loss.

As had been the case in the previous three games, Marywood jumped out to a 1-0 lead within the games' first seven minutes of play.  Versus Cairn, Megan Swiecicki put the Pacers up just 4:10 into the contest when she turned right on a defender and went in on a breakaway for the first goal of the game.

But, as has also been the case for the last three games, Marywood could not put their opponent away despite controlling tempo and shots in the first half.  In the previous three contests, Marywood's defense was able to hold off the opposition's attack. This time, however, Cairn's Meghan Wilson got in on a breakaway with less than five minutes left in the first half and knotted the game at 1-1.

Wilson's tally, her team-best 12th of the season, ended a 310 minute scoreless streak against the Pacers' defense and keeper Aly Moyer.

Wilson was partially able to tie the game up thanks to outstanding goalkeeping from her teammate Mackenzie Paugh, who made seven first half saves, including two on breakaways, to keep it a one-goal game.

A little over seven minutes into the second half, Youngman took a long pass from Danielle Rill and beat Paugh on a chip during a breakaway to make it 2-1 Marywood.

Exactly 30 minutes later, Youngman took a flicked ball from Ashley Kruchinsky and put home an insurance goal, her third of the season.

Moyer finished the game with three saves while Rill also cleared a ball off the line midway through the second half to preserve Marywood's 2-1 lead at the time.

The Pacers out-shot the visitors 28-9 (20-5 on goal) but Paugh came up with a game-high 17 stops to keep the game close.

Marywood is back in action Saturday whey they take on Centenary College in Hackettstown beginning at 12:00 pm.
