Women's Basketball Falls to Lebanon Valley in Pottsville Opener

Pottsville, PA - Marywood University opened its women's basketball season with a 68-50 loss to Lebanon Valley College Saturday in a neutral-site contest at Martz Hall in Pottsville, Pa.
Freshman Gabriella Giordano (Holy Cross) finished with 16 points for the Pacers. Senior Alexa Gerchman (Dunmore) joined her in double figures with 13 points.

Courtney Murray (Dunmore) had four steals and six points. No Marywood player had above four rebounds.

Marywood shot 31.7 percent from the field. Lebanon Valley made a third of its shots.

Long-range and free-throw shooting proved to be the difference. The Dutchman tripled the Pacers with nine 3-pointers. With both teams making 20 trips to the line, Lebanon Valley made six more free throws.

The Flying Dutchman outrebounded the Pacers by a 57-35 margin. Marywood forced 12 steals.
