Women's Basketball Secures CSAC First Round Home Date

Baltimore, MD - Marywood University notched a first round home game in the Colonial States Athletic Conference women's basketball playoffs with a 53-43 victory over Notre Dame of Maryland University Wednesday in its penultimate contest of the regular season. The Pacers (16-8, 11-4 CSAC) are tied with Gwynedd Mercy University for third place with the winner of Friday's season finale hosting No. 6 Rosemont College and the loser taking on No. 5 Keystone College.

Danielle Terranella was the lone Pacers player in double figures with 11 points. Maggie Presnal was a point shy of a double-double with 11 rebounds. Ashley Murray also totaled nine points.

Naimani Stanley guided the Gators with 12 points. Allyson Whiteacre garnered 10 points.

Marywood outscored Notre Dame 24-6 in the paint. The Pacers shot 39.3 percent from the field, and the Gators made 28 percent of its shots. The Pacers out-rebounded the Gators by a 39-33 margin.

Notre Dame surprisingly took a one-point lead (9-8) with 9:47 remaining in the first half. From there, the Pacers scored eight straight, five scored by Tara Steakin, over the next 80 seconds. Breanna Latourette stirred the Pacers' nine-point rally to close the half with an assist on an Ashley Murray 3-pointer and stealing a ball to set up a Courtney Murray jumper. Marywood went to the locker room with 29-16 lead.

Marywood scored three straight field goals to start the second, extending its run to 15 and its lead to 19. Notre Dame would not come within single digits in the second half.

The season finale between the Griffins and Pacers will be Friday at 7:00 pm in Gwynedd Valley, Pennsylvania. The CSAC first round will take place Monday night. In other CSAC women's basketball happenings, Immaculata University clinched a first round bye with the No. 2 seed, and Rosemont etched the final playoff spot with a one-point win over Neumann University.
