Wilkes-Barre Twp., PA – Sam Trill scored a game-winning goal for the only score of the fourth period to lift Marywood University to a 6-5 victory over King's College in non-conference men's lacrosse action. The victory gives interim head coach Tyler Perrelle his first career victory.

Trill scripted the only goal in the final 23 minutes of the game with 7:55 remaining to break a 5-5 tie. The Pacers' (1-1) defense, which allowed a measly five goals on 35 shots, held off the Monarchs for the remainder of the game to secure their first victory of the year.

Scott Slater joined Trill as two-goal scorers for the Pacers. Cody Bachman supplied two assists. Brandon Terlizzi, Austin Maylor and Dylan Swope all registered a point.

Joe Magargal was brilliant in net with 13 stops on 18 shots on goal for a .722 save percentage.  Defensively, Michael Squillante produced five ground balls and Ryan Nowell picked up four. Jarrod Bulger caused two turnovers.

It was what has turned out to be a historically low-scoring local rivalry with the Monarchs. The game tied for the second-lowest combined scoring game in program history, only topped by the Pacers' most recent trip to Betzler Fields when Marywood beat King's 6-4 on March 13, 2013. Three of the eight lowest combined scoring games in program history are against the Monarchs. The five goals-allowed in the lowest total since holding Bridgewater College to three on March 1, 2014.

Marywood won in spite of the Monarchs doubling the Pacers' shot total. King's out-shot Marywood 35-17 and had an 18-12 on targeted shots. King's held an edge on fewest combined turnovers (24-27), ground balls (30-26), and faceoffs (8 for 15). The Monarchs put up slightly better numbers on clear attempts with a 17 for 21 ratio in contrast to the Pacers' 18 for 25 mark.

The Pacers did not commit a single penalty in the game. King's committed just one minor infraction.

The first half did not play out in the defensive struggle that consumed the latter. Maylor put the Pacers ahead 3-1 with 51 seconds remaining in the first period, and King's Cam Trick halved the deficit with 12 seconds left. Bachman made his fifth assist of the year to Slater at the 12-minute mark in the second period. King's kept Marywood scoreless for over 15 minutes and found the net twice before halftime to send both teams to the locker rooms even at four apiece.

Slater posted his second of the game to give the Pacers a 5-4 lead from Dylan Swope. Three minutes and five seconds later, King's Brock Johnson squared things at five unassisted.

King's had five goals from five different players. Nick Foley had all eight faceoff wins.

Marywood has a week off until it returns home to face crosstown rival The University of Scranton Wednesday, March 4 at 6:00 pm. The Pacers are winless in seven meetings against the Royals, and the past four losses have each been decided by four or fewer goals.
