Scranton, PA - Marywood University women's basketball coach Tara Macciocco announced the team's annual Pink Game will be held Saturday. Proceeds and donations from the basketball doubleheader will go towards the Nadine Cenci Marchegiani Foundation.
The women's team will host rival Keystone College at 1:00 pm, followed by the men's tipoff with Gwynedd Mercy University at 3:00 pm.
The event coincides with the women's basketball, dance, step, and cheerleading teams' Senior Day. The Athletics Department will be introducing its Nineteenth Class of Hall of Fame Inductees when it honors former women's tennis athletes Meredith Force Cozzarelli '04 and Maria Gogal '04 at halftime of the women's game.
Marchegiani was a valued member of the Marywood basketball community and a former Valley View School District teacher who passed away after a battle with pancreatic cancer. She is the mother of current women's basketball manager Alisha Marchegiani and former women's basketball player Amanda Marchegiani.
The foundation is committed to helping the needs of individuals with serious illnesses within the local community; the local food banks; the Valley Community Library; and cancer research.Â
"We are very excited for this event and are hoping for a great turnout to support such an important cause that touches so many people," Macciocco said. "With eight local players, we are happy to keep the proceeds close to home where members of the community will be directly affected by the donations we collect. The Nadine Cenci Marchegiani Foundation is making great strides in raising awareness, and we are happy to be able to contribute."
Pink T-shirts are being sold for $10 and can be purchased ahead of time by contacting Coach Macciocco at 570-961-4724 or tmacciocco@marywood.edu. They will also be available for purchase in the Center for Athletics and Wellness starting Feb. 6.Â
