Scranton, PA - The Marywood University women's lacrosse team's five-game winning streak came to close Monday in a 14-5 loss to Alvernia College. The Pacers fell behind by three in the first 15 minutes and could not close the gap to slimmer than four in the second half.

Amanda Khozouri had a career-best day offensively with two goals and an assist for three points. Sam Bussinelli tallied two goals, and Dana Grossjung contributed for two assists.

Coming into the game ranked eighth nationally in caused turnovers, the Pacers matched their average with 17 caused turnovers. Katie Henry caused a season high four turnovers. Jennifer Newins had a career-best day with three caused turnovers and three ground balls.

Lauren Smith made 11 saves, including five stops on free position shots, in a losing effort. Smith garnered three ground balls.

Following five minutes of scoreless play, Alvernia's Brooke Campione put the Crusaders ahead with an unassisted goal. Jacquelyn Strange and Jenna Harper soon put Alvernia ahead 3-0. Bussinelli took a well-placed Khozouri pass from behind the net into the goal to end the scoring drought. Alvernia added four straight points for a 7-1 lead before Katrina Kelly shimmied her way through the Crusader defense and delivered a strike from Grossjung at 2:24.

Marywood gained momentum in the second half thanks to a pair of merited goals by Khozouri, the latter closing the deficit to 8-4 with 19:17 remaining in the game. Unfortunately for the Pacers, Alvernia rattled four consecutive goals over the next 10 minutes to put the game out of reach.

The short-handed Pacers look to return to their feet and retain their undefeated Colonial States Athletic Conference mark Thursday when they travel to Hackettstown, N.J. to face Centenary College.
