Scranton, PA - Visiting Neumann University limited host Marywood to just three hits per game as the Knights took an early but important CSAC doubleheader from the Pacers Thursday afternoon in Scranton.  In the opener, Neumann (10-2, 5-1 CSAC) edged Marywood 2-1 before the Knights exploded for 13 runs over the final two innings of the nightcap to blank the Pacers 14-0.

Marywood (10-5, 3-3 CSAC) looked sharp throughout the opener and took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second when Erik Pulkinnen's routine groundout produced an unearned run as Tommy Smith scored unearned.

The Pacers would carry that lead all the way to the fifth inning, but there, Neumann used a two-out rally to get the go ahead runs.  First, Buddy Elgin tied the game at one with a solo homer to left.  Then, Neumann added the winning run when Kye Williams doubled home Jarad Carney who had snigled to left and advanced to second on another single.

James Goetz suffered his first loss of the year (1-1) despite a strong performance over the first five innings for the Pacers.  Goetz allowed the two runs on six hits while striking out four.  Bryan Noonan provided two innings of scoreless relief for Marywood and struck out two while allowing just three hits.

Kristian DeLuzio got the win for Neumann with 2.2 innings of middle relief work.  DeLuzio replaced Will Taylor who pitched the first four innings and allowed one unearned run on two hits while fanning six.  DeLuzio struck out two and allowed just one hit, while Kevin Corris picked up his third save of the year by getting the final out of the game.

In the nightcap, Marywood stayed with the Knights for the first five innings, trailing just 1-0 on a top of the third run for the visitors, but Neumann exploded offensively for five runs in the sixth and two more in the seventh to seal their 10th win of the year, 14-0.  Russell Baldino (0-1) pitched a solid first five innings, allowing just one run on five hits while picking up six strikeouts.  Marywood's relievers, however, did not fair as well, and Justin Perez and Robert Flynn allowed a combined 11 earned runs (13 total) and 12 hits.

Neumann's Matt Anderson got his first win of the year by allowing just three hits over a complete-game effort.

Marywood looks to get back in the win column Tuesday when they travel to Aston to complete the three-game series with Neumann.
