Softball Sweeps Gators Behind 31 Hits

Scranton, PA - Marywood University earned its first sweep up the year by taking both games against Notre Dame of Maryland University Thursday in Colonial States Athletic Conference softball action. W
rapping up both games in five innings, Marywood won the first game 16-0 and the second by a 12-4 score. The Pacers tallied 31 hits between the two games.

Between the two games, Brooke Labs went 6 for 6 with six runs scored and a pair of doubles. Mariah Runco batted 5 for 6 with three runs scored, eight RBI and two doubles. Alexa Scala registered four hits, four runs and two RBI. 

In the first game, Alyssa Bavaro recorded her second career shutout and her first win of the year. In five innings of work, Bavaro allowed one hit and struck out three batters. She faced the minimum number of batters until an error in the fifth. 

Stephanie Bagniewski went 3 for 4 with two runs and four RBI in the Pacers' opening win. 

The Pacers (3-9, 3-1 CSAC) scored five runs in the top of the first inning, thanks to a pair of back-to-back doubles from Runco and Bagniewski. Marywood extended its lead to nine runs in the third with support from well-hit RBI singles by Scala and Bagniewski. The Pacers tacked on seven runs when 13 batters came to the place in the fourth. 

Sarah Recanati went four strong to secure her second win of the year in the nightcap. She allowed five hits and two earned runs. 

Following a groundout, Marywood pounded out four consecutive extra base hits to start the game. Recanati's triples was proceeded by RBI doubles from Labs, Runco and Chelsea Epler. The Pacers totaled five runs in the first, followed by three in the second and third to take an 11-0 lead through nine outs. 

Marywood returns from break to host Immaculata University on Easter Monday at 3:00 pm.
