Susquehanna Spoils Women's Lacrosse Regular Season Finale

Scranton, PA - Marywood University ended its women's lacrosse regular season schedule with an 18-5 loss to Susquehanna University Wednesday. After a 3-3 tie through the first 17 minutes of the game, Susquehanna out-scored the Pacers 15-2 the rest of the way. 

Fourth-seeded Marywood (7-8) hosts Gwynedd Mercy University in the first round of the Colonial States Athletic Conference playoffs Saturday at 1:00 pm. The game will be followed by a Pacers-Griffins men's lacrosse matchup in the CSAC semifinal round.

Mary Ninivaggi tied the school record for most caused turnovers in a single season (43) with five against the Crusader. Ninivaggi also scooped three ground balls. 

Sam Bussinelli scored four of the Pacers' five goals. Erin Healy added the other green-and-gold goal, tacking on an assist for two points. 

Haley Risi racked a season-high six ground balls. Caitlin Watson led the team with four draw controls. Dana Grossjung and Watson each contributed an assist.

Lauren Smith made eight saves in a reserve role. Teressa Izzo took the loss with five saves. 

Bussinelli scuttled across the field to tally the first goal of the game 65 seconds into regulation from Healy. A yellow card allowed Brynn Reid to score a woman-up goal at 26:36 to even the game. Becky McHugh provided a Crusader score that gave the Crusader the lead, and Meredith Crane added the first of a four-goal outing at 21:51. 

The Pacers tied the game at 3-3 with a pair of goals in a 20-second time frame. Following a Grossjung-to-Bussinelli netter, Watson snagged a draw control and flung it to Healy for 20th of the year. Crane put the Crusaders on a fast track to a four-goal run. 

Marywood scored on all five of its shots in the first half. The Pacers were held scoreless in the second half. 

The Pacers tied the Crusaders 13-13 in draw controls. Susquehanna outshot Marywood by a 35-11 margin. Marywood doubled Susquehanna 30-15 in turnovers committed.
