Neumann Sweeps Pacers in CSAC Twinbill

Scranton, PA - Visiting Neumann University improved to 21-1 in league play as the regionally ranked Knights swept host Marywood University Saturday afternoon in CSAC softball action. The Knights won a tight opener 7-6 before exploding for nine final inning runs in the nightcap to win 14-2.

Neumann controlled the opener early, going up 4-0 through five and a half innings, but Marywood (16-15, 15-7 CSAC) scored five unearned runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a 5-4 lead. Unfortunately for the Pacers, Neumann answered with three more runs in the top of the seventh and allowed just one in the Pacers' final at-bats to claim a 7-6 win.

Heather Schultz was 3-for-4 in the opener. Emily Perruso took the loss after allowing two earned runs over the final 1.2 innings. Alyssa Bavaro pitched the first 5.1 innings, allowing four runs on 10 hits.

In the nightcap, Neumann held a 5-2 lead on Marywood but then exploded for nine runs in their final at-bat to cruise to the 14-2 win. The Knights (27-5 overall) scored six unearned runs in the game and out-hit Marywood 16-7.

Perruso took the loss in the nightcap as well, pitching a complete game. Alexa Scala (2-for-4) was the only Pacer to manage multiple hits in game two.

Marywood will take on Wilkes tomorrow in a non-conference doubleheader at Kirby Park in Kingston beginning at 1:00 pm.
