Immaculata, PA - Fourth-seed Immaculata University held off a last inning rally from fourth-seeded Marywood University in a close CSAC first round softball game as the host Mighty Macs downed the Pacers 5-4 Wednesday afternoon.

Immaculata improves to 17-18 and will take on #1 Neumann University Friday at noon in Aston. #6 Gwynedd Mercy upset #3 Centenary and advances to the double elimination tournament where they will take on #2 Cabrini Friday at 10:00 am.

Marywood closes their season at 16-18 after reaching the CSAC post-season for the eighth consecutive season.

Immaculata got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth when CSAC Rookie of the Year Annemarie Bartow doubled to right center and advanced to third on a wild pitch. She would come home when Caitlyn Hudock grounded out to second base.

The Mighty Macs doubled their lead with an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth on a RBI sacrifice fly to left from designated player Lauren Penn. Penn's fly out scored Angelina Welch, who pinch ran for Melissa Ejk who opened the inning with a single to left.

But the real damage would be done by Immaculata's Meghan Kugler, as the sophomore third baseman blasted a three-run shot over the left field fence to give the hosts a commanding 5-0 lead.

Yet, just like much of the season, the Pacers rallied late. Jennifer Owens opened the top of the seventh with a pinch-hit single down the right field line. Kathleen Rossi then singled to center and moved pinch-runner Mackie Goodwin to second.

After a strikeout and then a walk to Alexa Scala, Sarah Recanati doubled to left to score Goodwin and Rossi. Recanati's double barely missed being a home run, bouncing off the very top off the wall but staying inside the park.

Brooke Labs then followed with a double to score Scala and Recanati and make it a 5-4 ballgame, but the Pacers' comeback would end there as Immaculata pitcher Caitlin Brasier got a fly out to end the game.

Marywood out-hit Immaculata10-5 on the day. Recanati went 3-for-4 on the day with two RBI while Scala was 2-for-4. Labs had a pair of RBI and hit her program record 21st double of the year.

Alyssa Bavaro went 5.1 innings, allowing four earned runs (five total) on five hits. Emily Perruso got the final two outs in the sixth for the Pacers.

For Marywood, seniors Mariah Runco, Chelsea Epler and Emily Perruso played in their final collegiate game where they combined led the Pacers to four straight CSAC playoff appearances, the 2014 CSAC Championship and the program's first NCAA tournament berth, an 81-66 overall record and a 66-22 conference mark.
