Scranton, PA - Featuring a lineup comprised of mostly new faces, Marywood University faltered in its opening two matches of the 2015, falling to Wilkes University and The University of Scranton in three sets Tuesday at the Insalaco Arena. Timothy Walsh made his coaching debut.

Marywood opened the Tri Match by falling to Wilkes 25-23, 25-15, 25-22. The Royals downed the Pacers 25-15, 25-20, 25-14. Sandwiched between the two Marywood matches, Scranton defeated the Colonels in four sets.

The Pacers enjoyed success both at net and the line. Marywood combined for 15 service aces and 16 blocks in both games.

In the first game, Marywood was fighting tooth-in-nail with the Colonels before Wilkes took the final two points to take the first set by a 25-23 score. Thanks to nine Pacer attack errors, the Colonels cruised to a 25-15. Marywood found itself trailing just 21-20 in the third; however, Wilkes went on to take four of the final six points. The Colonels ended a six-game slide that dates back to the 2010 season.

Lauren Besecker made the school record books in her first college appearance. Besecker tied Amy Kester's 2012 performance vs. St. Mary's of Maryland with eight blocks (two solo, six assists) that stands as the third-best in school history (dating back to 25-point rule change in 2008).

In addition to five blocks, Mallorie Deschaine reached double figures in her first collegiate performance with 10 kills on 36 attempts. Danielle DeIulio made nine assists and two aces. Amanda Khozouri stabalized the back line with 14 digs.

Madison Scarfaro posted 11 kills for the Colonels. Danica Benson had 12 digs. Megan Powers assisted for 11 times.

In the nightcap, Marywood posted a sub-zero attack percentage that plagued them against the stingent Royals. Trailing 20-16 in the second set, the Royals rallied for nine consecutive points on Bailey Woods serves.

Deschaine carried the Pacers offensively with a team-high five kills. Danielle DeIulio garnered a career-best 12 assists. Shayna Finn tallied five service aces, including three straight in the third set. Marywood totaled six blocks, including three by Meghan Weeks and Deschaine.

Marywood will compete in the Greyhound Premiere Volleyball Invitational at Moravian College Friday and Saturday. The Pacers open with the hosts Friday at 4:00 pm in Johnston Hall. They face Dickinson College at 6:00 pm. Ursinus, Carrol, Eastern, Muhlenberg, Stevens and Alvernia are potential opponents for Saturday's championship round.
