Scranton, PA - Freshman Megan Swiecicki scored the game-winning goal 1:02 into the second overtime period as host Marywood University earned their first ever win in the Joe Bochicchio Memorial Classic with a 2-1 thriller over Alfred University (N.Y.) Saturday afternoon in Scranton.  Julie Youngman had two assists in the win for Marywood, who improved to 1-2-1 on the year.

In the previous four years, Marywood went 0-2 at the tournament despite many close games.

Ashley Kruchinsky gave the Pacers a 1-0 lead 18:59 into the contest when she ripped a shot to the near post upper ninety from 35 yards out on the right flank.  Youngman had set up Kruchinsky with a nice through ball down the flank.  Controlling tempo for the rest of the first half, Marywood missed a golden opportunity to grab a 2-0 lead just before the break as Emily Kotcho's shot with just over a minute left in the half was saved by Alfred's Sammy Jo Shanahan.

Alfred (1-3-1) found the equalizer just over 15 minutes into the second half as Leigha Crevison took advantage of a through ball from Alyssa Garbarino and slotted home the breakaway to knot the game at 1-1.

Marywood nearly found the game-winner in the first overtime, but several Marywood chances were stopped at point-blank range by Shanahan and other Saxon defenders.

Swiecicki's heroics were set up early into the second overtime period as Youngman took a throwin from Elizabeth Carlson and sent in a cross from the left corner of the 18-yard box.  That cross found deflected off the back of Amanda Allikmaa and found Swiecicki, who settled the ball and fed Kruchinsky.  Kruchinsky then beat two defenders at the penalty spot before slotting it back to Swiecicki for the game-winner.

Marywood held a slim 14-12 advantage in shots but put 10 on goal to Alfred's five.  Aly Moyer made four saves in 101:05 to get the win.  Shanahan finished with a game-high eight stops for the Saxons.

In the other opening round game, Lebanon Valley beat host Scranton 1-0.  Marywood will host LVC Sunday at 1:00 pm in day two action while Scranton will host Alfred.
