Volleyball Nabs First Win of the Season at Summit

Clarks Summit, PA – Marywood University picked up its first women's volleyball victory of the season with a three-set victory over Summit University of Pennsylvania Wednesday in Colonial States Athletic Conference action. The Pacers halt a 12-game losing streak to begin the season.

Marywood won by scores of 25-12, 25-15, 25-21.

Maddie Lavery posted a team-best 11 kills to lead the Pacers offensively. Lavery totaled just two errors on 21 attempts for a .429 attack percentage. It marked the second most kills in a three-set match this season.

Amanda Khozouri made 15 digs on defense. Mallorie Deschaine supplied seven digs and three aces. Danielle DeIulio had 19 assists, and Meghan Weeks blocked three shots.

Brianna Thompson came off the bench to contribute four assists, two digs and a block in a set.

In the first set, Marywood jumped out to an early 7-2 lead off four straight points via Lauren Besecker serves. The lead grew to 21-9 on a DeIulio kill from Mallory Mokay. Lavery finished off the set with a kill.

The second set stood tied at 7-7 until Marywood went on a 7-1 run. Lavery posted three kills in four rallies. Mokay recorded two aces as part of a six-point run late in the game. The Pacers shot .286 in the second with just four errors.

Summit led 15-10 in the third set before Khozouri instigated a comeback off the serve. Still, the Pacers trailed 19-18 before Thompson took over serves, leading the team to five straight points. Marywood held off the Defenders in the end, thanks to a pair of bad sets.

Summit's Callie Kitowski notched 11 kills on 31 attempts for a .194 attack percentage. Jessie Klumbacj and Kitowski finished with 12 and 11 digs, respectively. Samantha Snow made 17 assists.

Marywood wastes no time in looking to double its win total. The Pacers host Keystone College Thursday at 7:00 pm.
