Pacers Roll over Cairn for Fifth CSAC Win

Scranton, PA - The Marywood University women's basketball team skated to its fifth Colonial States Athletic Conference victory in as many games in a 59-35 triumph over Cairn University Wednesday. The Pacers jumped out to a double-digit lead in the first six minutes, scoring 15 of the game's first 20 points, and never trailed by three or fewer possessions the rest of the way. 

Gabrielle Giordano led the Pacers with 18 points and eight rebounds. Giordano went seven of 17 from the field, and added three 3-pointers. Alyssa Olson provided 13 points, six steals and six rebounds. 

Courtney Murray and Natasha Hessling corraled seven rebounds. 

Cairn (3-10, 3-3 CSAC) enjoyed a double-double from Payton Emerick with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Amie Eppolito added 10 points. 

Marywood (8-6, 5-0 CSAC) shot 48.6 percent in the first half; however, it made just six shots in the second to finish with a 34.3 percent outing. Cairn connected on slightly below a quarter of its shots. Marywood outrebounded the Highlanders by a 53-37 rate. 

Cairn trailed by just one point (6-5) with 6:23 left in the first. Marywood went on an 11-point run, capped by a Courtney Murray layup five minutes later.

Marywood hosts Cedar Crest College Saturday at 1:00 pm.
