Scranton, PA - Shane Letthand scored a game-high 17 points, 14 of which came in the second half, as the senior guard led Marywood back from a 17-point deficit to help the Pacers secure a 61-55 win over Summit University of Pennsylvania Wednesday evening in Scranton. The win ended a six-game slide for Marywood (5-11) and handed coach Enrico Mastroianni his first CSAC win (1-8) on the Pacers' sideline.  Summit fell to 1-15, 1-8 CSAC with the loss.

Summit started the game on fire from long range, hitting seven three pointers in the opening 15 minutes of the game, breaking open a 9-9 game and and building a 29-12 lead.  But, with 4:52 remaining in the half, things began to swing in favor of the Pacers, as Marywood's defense kept the Defenders off the board for the remainder of the stanza and the hosts pulled to within eight at the break, down 29-21.

After Marywood got to within five (35-30) on a layup by James Curley five minutes into the second half, it appeared that a quick 6-0 run from the visitors would put the Pacers away.

Down 42-32 with 12:29 to go, Marywood went on a furious 14-3 run capped by a Curley trey to give Marywood their first lead since the 12:56 mark of the first half (9-8).

With the game tied 49-49 with 3:16 to play, a 6-0 burst from Letthand put Marywood up for good, 55-49.  Letthand started his own run with a lay-in before sinking four straight free throws.

A pair of free throws from Evan Dougoud got the Defenders to within four (55-51) with 1:06 to play, but the Pacers iced the game on the charity stripe to pick up their first league win of the year.

Letthand led four Pacers in double figures as Tip Swartz finished with 12 points and Connory Shroyer and Cory Callejas each added 10.  Abe Valentine led the Defenders with a team-high 14 points.

Marywood is back in action Saturday at Rosemont, weather depending.
