Scranton, PA - Marywood University won its eighth straight victory in a 69-54 victory over Centenary College Saturday in Colonial States Athletic Conference women's basketball action. The Pacers pass the 1985-86 and 1986-87 seasons to set the second largest winning streak in program history, one being the 2010-11 run of nine games.

Gabrielle Giordano provided the first double-double of her career with 17 points and 10 rebounds. She has reached double figures in nine of the past 10 games, including the last six. Giordano connected on four 3-pointers.

Alexa Gerchman was just a 3-pointer and an assist away from what would have been a triple-double with 10 rebounds, seven points and nine assists. Gerchman tied her own school mark of nine helpers, achieved during last season's ECAC playoff overtime game at Moravian College.

Alyssa Olson battled to get 14 points on 6 of 10 shooting from the floor. Catie Nealon made three 3-pointers for a nine-point effort.

Centenary's Ally Fugnitti hit five 3-pointers for a 15 point performance, along with five steals. Mallory George contributed 12 points and eight rebounds.

Marywood stays on top of the CSAC standings with a 12-6 overall records and 9-0 in conference play. Gwynedd Mercy won its game over Cairn to sit one game behind the Pacers.

The Pacers led for 58 minutes of the game, despite the Cyclones (11-8, 6-4 CSAC) hanging around for most of the duration. Marywood went on a 12-2 run early on and held Centenary to one field goal over an eight-minute span. Centenary brought the lead to one possession on several occasions but a Nealon 3-pointer via Giordano lifted the Pacers lead to 30-21 with 90 seconds left in the first half.

A pair of Cyclone threes from Rachel Edwards and Fugnitti sliced the Pacers' lead to just one (37-36); however, Kylie Devlin found a wide-open Nealon for a long-range basket to turn Marywood's spirits around. An 11-1 run by the Pacers, capped by a Giordano 3-pointer, upped the lead to 12 just before the close of the third quarter.

Marywood's defense held Centenary to another four-minute scoreless stretch in the fourth quarter, paving the road for a 10-point run stamped by an and-1 play by Natasha Hessling from Nealon.

Marywood shot 37.9 percent from the field, compared to the Cyclones' 31.1 percent mark. Both teams finished with 18 turnovers. Marywood caused five turnovers via taken charge, including three by Gerchman.

The Pacers look to tie the school winning streak record at Neumann University Monday.
