Pacers' Rally Falls Short at Immaculata

Immaculata, PA - Down by as much as 16 in the first half and 12 in the second half, a second half Marywood rally fell short as the Pacers fell to host Immaculata University 68-64 in Colonial States Athletic Conference men's basketball action Saturday afternoon. The host Mighty Macs improved to 5-8 (4-2 CSAC) with the win while Marywood, who got 23 points from Shane Letthand, fell to 4-9 (0-6 CSAC).

Down 11 at the half (43-32) and by as much as 12 in the second frame, Marywood slowly chipped away at the Immaculata lead and eventually tied the game at 55-55 on a layup from Connor Callejas (12 points).  A free throw and a trey from the hosts gave the Mighty Macs a four-point cushion (59-55) but a Letthand layup got Marywood right back in the game with 3:10 to go.

Several free throws would eventually up the Mighty Macs up six, 64-58, with less than two minutes remaining, but more three's from Tip Schwartz (16 points) and Letthand had the Pacers within three (64-61) with less than a minute remaining.

Forced to foul to regain possession, the Pacers put the Mighty Macs on the line six times over the final 45 seconds and the hosts made all six to put the game away.

Matt Simon had a career high 27 points and a school record nine three pointers for Immaculata in the win.

Marywood is back in action Wednesday when they host Cairn University at 7:00 pm in Scranton.
