Strong Second Half Lifts Marywood Past Immaculata

Immaculata, Pa. – Marywood got goals from three different players as the Pacers defeated host Immaculata University 4-1 in CSAC field hockey action Saturday afternoon.  The wins moves Marywood to 7-3 overall and 2-1 in the league while Immaculata fell to 5-6 overall and 1-1 in the CSAC.

The Pacers would break through 10 minutes into the game when Cassie Stockwell took a pass from Tori Jo Kakusian after a penalty corner to give the Pacers a 1-0 lead.  The Pacers would never look back from this point.

Goalkeeper Sarah Pasternak worked hard to keep the Macs in the game making two saves in the first half and then another four saves in the second half, but Marywood would expand on a 1-0 halftime lead with three second half tallies.

Amelia Waibel scored the first of her two goals on the day in the 39th minute when Stockwell passed to her for Stockwell's second assist on the day. Waibel scored again in the 65th minute when she got a pass from Sara Sterchak.

The Pacers also scored in the 54th minute when Gabbie Bower scored on a feed from Sterchak. The Macs answered back five minutes later when Megan Donegan put a shot past a stretched out Marywood goalie to make the game 3-1 with just under 11 minutes to play. 

Marywood out-shot the hosts 15-4 on the day.

Marywood hosts Moravian College tomorrow at 2:00 pm in non-conference action.
