Field Hockey Win Streak Halted by Alvernia

Reading, Pa. - Ranked #18 in the latest Penn Monto/NFHCA Division III poll, host Alvernia University improved to 13-0 on the year with a 7-2 win over visiting Marywood University Monday afternoon in non-conference field hockey action.  The Pacers had their three game win streak snapped and fall to 9-4.

After Malorie McCoy scored unassisted in the 11th minute for the Crusadres, Margaret Wentzel netted back-to-back goals off feedsfrom Taylor Dorrin and Andrea Wysocki to make it 3-0 in favor of the hosts. 

Goals from Dorrin (20th minute) and Brianna Buckley (24th) made it 5-0 and Wysocki made is 6-0 in the 29th minute off a feed from Erica Groves.

Tori Jo Kakusian scored off a assist from Gabbie Bower early in the second half to spoil the shutout and would score again unassisted on a breakaway with just over two minutes left to play.   

Alvernia added a goal at the 70:00 mark from Mackenzie Juhlin to make it a 7-2 final.

Alvernia outshot Marywood 21-7 on the day (12-0 in the opening half). Kerri Mountz suffered the loss in goal after allowing four goals in 19:21.  Emma Stockwin made eight saves and allowed three goals in the final 50:39 of the contest.  Rebecca Brosious and Nicole Heinze (one save) split time in net for the Crusaders.  Alvernia had 13 penalty corners to Marywood's eight.

Marywood is back in action next Wednesday October 19 when the Pacers travel to Radnor for a key CSAC matchup at Cabrini University at 4:00 pm.
