Volleyball Moves to Fourth Place in CSAC Standings with Split

Scranton, Pa. – Marywood University split a Colonial States Athletic Conference volleyball tri-match with a three-set win over Clarks Summit University and a four-set loss to Neumann University on Wednesday. The Pacers move to fourth place in the CSAC with a 6-2 record, while the Knights stay pat in third place and the Defenders dip to seventh.

After taking the first set, Marywood fell to Neumann by scores of 23-25, 25-21, 25-21, 25-17. The Pacers championed a 25-13, 25-12, 25-9 victory against the Defenders.

Neumann 3, Marywood 1

Mallorie Deschaine provided the team with 19 kills. She took 48 shots to finish with a .167 attack percentage. She added 12 assists for a double-double.

Peri Sheerin added 12 kills.

Three players reached double figures defensively. Jordan Vossler led the team with 22 digs. Shayna Finn recorded 11 digs.

Daniele DeIulio authored 40 assists and five digs. Shannon Hupert tacked on three service aces.

Neumann led by as many as six points (12-6) in the first set. The Pacers came back off of three Hupert aces on a six-point Pacer run to tie the match at 14. Ping-ponging the lead came naturally to the Pacers and Knights, and the lead traded hands 24 times in the match.

Trailing 23-22, the Pacers closed out the set with three straight points. DeIulio misdirected a shot to even the score at 23-23. After a Neumann attack error, Deschaine punctuated the win with a kill.

In the second set, Neumann broke out of a 20-20 tie by scoring five of the final six points.

Neumann's Hayley Glah had 14 kills and 16 digs. Rachael Hoffman posted 11 kills, and Shaynee Sullivan chipped in with another 10 kills. Rachel Cray had five aces.

Marywood 3, Clarks Summit 0

Deschaine led the offense against with 12 kills. She did not commit an error on 22 attempts for a .545 percentage that stands just shy of the top six in program history.

Hupert dominated from the service line with eight aces, putting her name into a tie for fourth all-time in school history for a single match.
Vossler and Gabby Santos reached double figures defensively with 11 and 10 digs, respectively.

DeIulio tallied 32 assists and five digs, in addition to three kills.

Callie Kitowski had eight kills, and Jessica Klumbach recorded 10 digs for the Defenders.

Marywood is idle for the next week and will face Moravian College on Oct. 19.
