Volleyball Escapes Tense Match Against Greyhounds

Bethlehem, Pa. – Marywood University hung on to win three tight matches that were each settled by three or fewer points in a non-conference volleyball victory over Moravian College Wednesday. The Pacers improve their record to 12-16 overall.

The Pacers were victorious by scores of 25-22, 29-27, 25-23.

Mallorie Deschaine posted a double-double with 12 kills and 17 digs. She committed just two errors for a .303 attack percentage.

Peri Sheerin matched Deschaine with 12 kills. Gabby Santos also posted a double-double with 10 kills and 13 digs.

Danielle DeIulio tallied 31 assists, in addition to four kills and seven digs. Shayna Finn tied for a team-best 17 digs. Jordan Vossler had 10 digs.

Mikayla Attwood had four block assists.

The Greyhounds (13-12) was led by Mary Zacher with 13 kills and 11 digs. Victoria Kauffman totaled 36 assists.

In the second set, Marywood trailed 23-21 before a pair of Moravian attack errors evened the game. The Greyhounds had two set points, the latter derailed by a Vossler service ace. With the game tied at 27-27, Marywood took the lead on an attack error. Deschaine sealed the win with a kill.

In the third set, Marywood broke open a 15-15 tie on a five-point run on DeIulio serves. The Greyhounds scored five out of six points to turn a four-point deficit into a 23-23 impasse. Sheerin closed the victory with a pair of kills.

Marywood hosts a key Colonial States Athletic Conference match against Immaculata Saturday at noon. It begins a tri-match that finishes against Manhattanville.
