Volleyball Clinches CSAC Playoff Berth with Sweep

Scranton, Pa. –  Marywood University clinched a Colonial States Athletic Conference volleyball playoff berth with a three-set victory over Immaculata University Saturday in a tri-match. The Pacers also downed Manhattanville College for their third win in a row and their 10th victory in the past 12 games.

Marywood topped Immaculata by scores of 25-16, 25-18, 27-25.

In the first match against the Mighty Macs, Mallorie Deschaine finished with a double-double with a team-best 12 kills and 23 digs. Gabby Santos also reached double figures with 10 kills.

Danielle DeIulio provided the Pacers with 28 assists, seven digs and three aces.

Defensively, Shayna Finn totaled 13 digs and Jordan Vossler tabbed 11 digs.


The Pacers' net game was strong with nine blocks. Katherine McGrath had five blocks (one solo, four assists). Mikayla Attwood garnered three solo and one assist block.

As a team, Marywood posted a .181 attack percentage to the Mighty Macs' .098 average.

In the latter match, Marywood sunk the Valiants by 25-22, 27-25, 25-21 scores.

Marywood had three players in double figures for attacks. Mallorie Deschaine totaled 13 kills and 13 digs for her second double-double of the day. Santos and Peri Sheerin each totaled 12 kills, the former with three aces.

DeIulio continued her torrid stretch with 33 assists. Vossler notched 10 digs.

Santos had a team-high hitting percentage of .346.

The Pacers finished with a .231 attack percentage. Manhattanville calculated a .227 attack percentage.

Marywood was leading 14-12 in the first set against Immaculata before finishing off on an 11-4 run. In the second set, Marywood won nine of the last 10 points. The Mighty Macs broke four match points to keep the third set alive. The Pacers totaled the final two points on Immac attack errors. On a key shot on a match point, Vossler played a game of hot potato by stretching out for a dig to keep the game alive.

The Pacers close their CSAC regular season with an away tilt at Centenary College Monday. The Pacers need a Cabrini College win against Notre Dame or Immaculata to clinch a home date in the CSAC first round.
