Scranton, Pa. – Marywood University secured the No. 3 seed in the Colonial States Athletic Conference field hockey playoffs with a 4-1 victory over Keystone College Thursday afternoon in a rainy rivalry game. Needing a win to lock down the seed, the Pacers (11-4, 5-2 CSAC) will travel to second-seeded Cabrini College (6-1 CSAC) on Wednesday, Nov. 2.

Keystone needed the third level of tiebreakers (goals against) to eek the playoff spot over Neumann and Immaculata – all of whom finished with identical 3-4 CSAC records and wins-losses against conference opponents in descending order. The No. 4 Giants will travel to top seed Gwynedd Mercy University in the semifinal.

Marywood improves its record with its 11th victory — the most for the program in 18 seasons. The Pacers recorded 15 wins in its Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (now CSAC) championship season in 1998.

Amelia Waibel led the Pacers with two goals to improve her career total to 17. It is her third two-goal game of the season. Kenzie Drew posted a season-best three points on a goal and an assist.

Gabbie Bower added a goal for her team-high 12th of the year. Bower stands fifth in school history with 28 career goals.

Kerri Mountz continued her impressive week with eight saves and one goal-allowed in 70 minutes. Kirsten Webb had a defensive save to put her fourth all-time at Marywood with the ninth of her career.

Waibel put in the Pacers' first two goals in the first half-hour. She tacked one on in the 13th minute when she put one in off of a rebound of a Bower shot that caromed off the post. Waibel doubled the lead in the 30th minute. Waibel took Drew's feed off of a penalty corner and blasted it from the top of the circle.

Fifty-nine seconds later, Bower tapped in the ball from the right side of the cage. Amanda Focht's shot was saved by Keystone netminder Emily Hawkins, and Bower idled by to stab it into the cage.

Drew added the Pacers' final goal in the 46th minute.

Keystone's April Llewellyn had a defensive save. Hawks made three saves, and Megan Novak kept away five shots.

Marywood outshot the Giants by a 23-16 margin. The Giants had a 9-6 advantage in penalty corners.

Marywood will celebrate its Senior Day Saturday when it hosts Misericordia at noon.
