Pacers Bow Down to Gators in CSAC Five-Set Upset

Scranton, Pa. – Fourth-seeded Marywood University's volleyball campaign came to a close in a five-set loss to No. 5 Notre Dame of Maryland Tuesday in the Colonial States Athletic Conference first round. The Gators (17-8) advance to face top-ranked Cabrini University in the semifinal round.

Marywood came back to even the match by winning two straight sets after falling two games to none. The Gators prevailed in a lopsided fifth set.

Notre Dame won by scores of 25-21, 25-21, 21-25, 22-25, 15-5.

Marywood shot .032 for the contest to the Gators' .144 attack percentage. The Gators dominated defensively with a 68-45 advantage in digs. Both teams finished with seven aces and seven blocks.

Mallorie Deschaine posted a double-double with 15 kills and 13 digs. She finishes the year with the second-most single season kills in program history with 300.

Peri Sheerin also provided 13 kills. Gabby Santos was a kill shy of a double-double with 10 digs.

Danielle DeIulio penciled in 38 assists. She finishes the season as the career-record holder with 919 assists.

Mikayla Attwood dominated the net with one solo block and six block assists for seven total blocks.

In the third set, Marywood staved away a Notre Dame comeback from four points down. With the Gators creeping at a 23-21 deficit, Santos supplied a kill to get to match point. Sheerin finished the match with a kill.

In the fourth set, the Pacers jumped to a six-point lead on three straight aces by Jordan Vossler. Notre Dame tied it at 19 apiece, but Deschaine posted a kill to retake the lead. The Pacers' lead was pencil thin after Cassidy Keller cut it to a one-point game (23-22). A Notre Dame service and attack error ensured a fifth set.

In the deciding set, Notre Dame won the last eight points, off Kayleigh Davis serves, to book its ticket to the semifinals in its third-straight trip to the CSAC playoffs.

Kelley finished with 17 kills and a .294 attack percentage. Jamie Reyes accounted for 45 assists, and Cleya Antes garnered 24 digs.
