Hunter Edges Marywood in OT at Rose City Consolation

Madison, N.J. – Hunter College held off Marywood University for a 85-82 overtime win over the Pacers Saturday afternoon in the consolation game of the Rose City Classic, hosted by Drew University.  The Hawks improved to 1-2 on the year while Marywood slipped to 0-2.

Connor Shroyer led all scorers with a game-high 30 points, while James Curley reached double digits (12 points) for the second straight game and Jeremy Ringland had 16. 

Matt Franks led Hunter with 16 while Amer Lukac (15), Danny Fusco (12), Blendi Ibraj (11) and Gerard Carty (10) were all in double figures for the Hawks.
Curley made a jumper as time expired to force overtime as the teams were tied at 71 all.  The Pacer shad trailed by four (71-67) with 21 ticks left after a pair of free throws from Hunter's Carty.

Marywood opened OT by grabbing a two-point lead off a jumper from Shroyer, but Hunter scored four straight points to reclaim the lead.  Marywood went back up 77-76 on a layup from Ringland, but the Hawks responded with a 5-0 run to reclaim a lead they would not relinquish.

Hunter got 28 points in the paint on the night and had 30 points off turnovers to go along with 22 bench points.  Marywood had 38 in the paint but hit just 4 of 15 three's (26.7%) on the night.  The two teams combined for 39 turnovers (20 Marywood, 19 Hunter). Marywood was over 48% from the field for the afternoon while Hunter was over 44%.

Hunter's largest lead of the game was 22 points with 4:37 to go in the first before Marywood responded and came all the way back to force OT.
Marywood is back on the court Tuesday with their CSAC opener. The Pacers will travel to Gwynedd Valley to take on Gwynedd Mercy University at 7:00 pm.
