Cabrini Fends Off Marywood, 73-61

Scranton, Pa. - Marywood University got to within four late but Cabrini University pulled away down the stretch to fend off the Pacers and  leave Scranton with a 73-61 CSAC win Saturday afternoon. The Cavaliers are now 4-2 overall and 2-0 in the league while Marywood dropped to 0-7 (0-3 CSAC) with the loss.

Jeremy Ringland's team high 23 points was not enough as Tyheim Monroe led five Cavaliers in double figures with a game high 25 points. Monroe completed a double-double with a game high 17 boards as well. Tip Swartz added 10 for Marywood.

After trailing by mostly double digits since late in the first half, Marywood trimmed into the Cabrini lead throughout the second half.  Down by as many as 15 (54-39) with just over nine minutes remaining, Marywood used a 20-9 run over the next six minutes to find themselves down just four, 63-59, after a Swartz trey with 2:36 remaining.

Unfortunately for the Pacers, Cabrini closed the game on a 10-2 run to seal the win.

Cabrini forced 17 Marywood turnovers that they converted to 19 points while committing just seven turnover themselves.  Marywood was also held to 4-of-14 shooting (28.6%) from behind the arc.  

Marywood will host Moravian College Tuesday at 7:00 pm in non-conference action.
