Dallas, Pa. - Gab Giordano scored 22 points in Marywood University's 69-61 loss to Misericordia University in women's basketball Friday evening. Natasha Hessling totaled 12 points for the Pacers.

Marywood shot better from the field than the Cougars, leading by a 45.1-to-43.1 percent margin. The Cougars' success on the boards proved to be the difference in the contest. Misericordia collected 44 rebounds to the Pacers' 26. The Cougars' advantage in second-chance points matched the point differential.

Rachel Carmody carried the load early, scoring their first nine points of the game as she traded buckets with the Pacers. Japriya Carroll hit a jumper and a three before Paige Wampole snagged an offensive rebound in traffic and laid it which made it 16-13 Cougars after one.

Misericordia opened the second quarter on a 15-8 run as the Cougars took a 31-21 lead midway through the second. Marywood scored on a layup, Carroll swished a jumper with four minutes to go and then the teams went cold with neither team scoring until the last 30 seconds.

Trailing 34-27 at the half, Marywood came out aggressively early, scoring six points off a couple turnovers to get it to 36-33 with 6:32 to go in the period. Misericordia responded by closing the quarter on an 18-7 run. Carroll capped the run by losing her defender on a Carmody pick and firing in a three from the right wing to make it 54-40 heading into the fourth.

Justine Seely scored the first 13 points for the Cougars in the fourth to help keep Marywood at bay.
